Well hello there!
This first post is just about me and where I live, and more!
My name is Marjane Satrapi (but you can call me Marji for short!), and I was born on November 22, 1969 in Rasht Iran, to my parents (well...in case you didn't realize they were my parents) Taji and Ebi Satrapi! It's June of 1980 right now, so that means I am almost 11 years old! I am a big kid now!!!!!!
To get an idea of what I look like, here is my school photo from this year:

As you can see I don't look very happy and have my arms crossed out of irritation. This is because I had to wear the veil, along with every other girl in my class. (see my class photo below)

I know, I know, you can't even see me in it. I'm sitting on the far left, and didn't get in the photo. From left to right, the girls are: Golnaz, Mahshid, Narine, and Minna.
Wearing the veil has become part of the new regime after the Islamic Revolution took place last year, in 1979, and now all Iranian women are obligated to wear it (especially during school hours for young girls like me). It gets really annoying though, and nobody really likes it, especially because nobody understands why we have to in the first place!!
Anyways, I'll post things when I have time, hopefully often, and it will be just like a public journal, I guess!
I have to go now, my mother and father told me its my bedtime! Your friend,
Marji Satrapi
